MEÍN
O Pequeno Meín Tinto 2020
O Pequeno Meín Tinto 2020 is an expressive wine made from caíño longo, brancellao, sousón and caíño redondo. The vineyards located in the northern part of the Avia valley, in the abrupt orography between Pazos de Arenteiro and Leiro, are marked by the particular Atlantic climate with intense inland thermal oscillations. The winemaking is done separately, with fractions of each variety and each plot in stainless steel, oak and concrete tanks. A wine that brings us closer to the local red varieties of the Avia Valley. The reflection of a changing climate. Wild character. Wild nature.
The fall of 2019 and winter of 2020 were rainy, but also cold. Spring started with pleasant weather, which caused a 3 week advance in the cycle. The end of April and May accumulated a large amount of rainfall, as usual in the area. This year in particular, the vineyard required very precise management. With the arrival of summer, the weather turned dry and several hot spells facilitated field work and good grape health . Harvest of the red varieties began on September 14 and ended on September 16. 2020 will be a vintage easy to remember for the level of demand it placed on the team and for the experience it provided.
The Avia valley is dotted with a historical wealth of red varieties. The sousón, brancellao, caíño longo and caíño redondo vines share space with the rest of nature and recall a past in which the presence of vines on these soils was the majority. The abrupt orography and the wild flora among which the river flows in its northern area keep the reality of this landscape.
O Pequeno Meín Tinto 2020 is made from the historic caíño longo, brancellao, sousón and caíño redondo grapes from the Osebe, Ribeira, Zacoy and Rivas parcels. These vineyards are located in the northern part of the Avia valley. A marked Atlantic climate during autumn, winter and spring and the thermal oscillations of the Galician interior characterize the features of these varieties. O Pequeno Meín Tinto maintains the precision required by the heterogeneity of this area with separate elaborations by varieties and plots in stainless steel, concrete and wood tanks. It was aged with continuous batônages.
