Meín Castes Brancas 2024
After a very rainy autumn in 2023, winter 2024 continued with the warm trend and extremely high rainfall, with most of the precipitation concentrated in February and March. The high temperatures during these months brought forward budding. The vines developed rapidly due to a hot April, with temperatures exceeding 30ºC (86ºF), something completely unusual in the area. The rainy trend continued throughout the rest of the spring, which was slightly cooler than usual, although with very high fungal pressure. The team’s experience enabled them to maintain optimal health in the vineyard. July and August were dry and extremely hot. The harvest of white varieties began on August 26 and ended on September 18.
Since the beginning of the Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo project, the aim has been to interpret the entire environment of Lugar de Meín and its neighboring communities: San Clodio, Vilerma, Cuñas, and Barouta. The Avia Valley is a mosaic of plots that develop in harmony with a green landscape marked by high rainfall. Meín is an example of meticulous viticulture with an ecological philosophy linked to the land. The most important grape variety is Treixadura, but there are also small percentages of Godello, Albariño, Torrontés, Loureira, Caiño Blanco, and Lado. Microvinification has been used to recognize the essence of each vineyard, seeking to convey the different textures of the gravel and decomposed granite sand that characterize this environment.
Mein Castes Brancas 2024 is made from vineyards in the Avia Valley area, expressing the character of a territory that is unique for its diversity and climate. It is made from Treixadura, Godello, Albariño, Torrontés, Loureira, Caiño Blanco, and Lado grapes. The different vines were harvested at their optimum ripeness in 12 kg boxes and taken to the winery where the grapes were first selected and then pressed separately. A low-intervention winemaking process respects the origins of each plot. Fermentation is spontaneous in stainless steel tanks of different sizes and foudres. After 10 months of aging in the same tanks and foudres, the different plots and varieties were blended and the wine was bottled. It contains sulfites for greater protection of the wine.
