O Gran Mein 2019

O Gran Meín Lustro 2019

O Gran Meín Lustro 2019 is a wine that shows the aging potential of the wines made in the village of Meín, which dates back as far as the 12th century as a vineyard. O Gran Meín Lustro features the local Ribeiro varieties: treixadura, torrontés, albariño, godello, loureira, caíño blanco and lado. With the intention of showcasing the greatness of extraordinary plots, a portion of the 2019 vintage was saved for release at a later date. After five years in bottle, O Gran Meín Lustro 2019 is a selection that expresses the extraodinary capacity of the vineyard surrounding a unique village in the Avia valley. A wine that evokes the most prestigious historical Ribeiro.

The 2019 vintage started with cold and dry weather, including some frosts. At the end of January, the trend changed and the year began to accumulate abundant rainfall until the arrival of spring. A dry May prevented serious fungal attacks on the vineyard. The summer was hot and dry, especially in August. This situation facilitated good health until the end of the cycle without causing great stress to the vines. The harvest began on September 9 and ended on October 3. It was a classic Galician harvest, with sunny days interspersed with rainy days. This weather made for a slow harvest. Several harvests were carried out in each vineyard, separating each variety and each plot, which allowed each grape to be picked at its optimum ripeness.

The historic Meín plot, worked as a vineyard intermittently since the 12th century, is the fundamental vineyard on which this wine is made. Other vines from the surroundings of the village of Meín join the plot to enhance the expression of this landscape. O Gran Meín Lustro 2019 presents a mosaic of terraces that dominate the hillsides, a soil of sábrego or decomposed granite, and an Atlantic climate with a strong inland component. The balance of the great vineyards to produce wines that show their maximum expression for years.

O Gran Meín Lustro 2019 was made with grapes from local Ribeiro varieties: treixadura coexists in harmony with albariño, torrontés, godello, loureira, caíño blanco and lado. An exhaustive monitoring of each vine and individualized care of the plots explain the value that Galician smallholdings bring to the production of great wines. The grapes were harvested in 12 kg boxes according to the moment of ripening, applying the colleiteiro style. Each plot and variety was kept separate from the rest in stainless steel, concrete, stoneware or oak to extract the purest and most energetic expression of the terroir. After aging on the lees for 12 months it was bottled in the fall of 2020 and has since continued to age in bottle for five years. For greater protection the wine contains sulfites.
